If spouses realize that they are no longer able or willing to keep a marriage together, it can be better for all involved if they divorce. But all too often, divorcees are left with feelings of guilt that they were unable to keep their marriages together.

But when divorced individuals harbor such negative emotions, they tend to overlook the fact that a divorce can be the catalyst for self-discovery. Divorce can also generate an appreciation for the experience of having been married.

In a recent article, the Huffington Post printed reader comments related to the topic of divorce. The readers’ comments made it clear that divorce can be a force for positive change. For example, one reader wrote that being divorced helped her discover a previously unrealized strength that she used to help herself and her children.

Other readers related how getting divorced helped improve their health. Another expressed the belief that her marriage was a success, but it had simply reached an expiration date. A couple of the readers wrote of how their divorces helped them build stronger bonds with their children.

So remember, after a marriage ends, you will likely have a wealth of wisdom accrued from the experience. And you can take this well-earned experience and knowledge and put it to good use as you begin to write the latest chapters of your life.

If you are in the process of getting a divorce, it is extremely important to start your new life in the strongest financial position possible. You will likely have a number of issues to work out with your ex-spouse, such as asset division, child custody and child support. A Texas family law attorney could help you work out these critical details.
