It may be difficult to announce to your family and friends that you are getting a divorce. In some situations it may be a surprised to them; in others, you may be the last to know that the relationship is over. Either way, you may be inundated with questions. Some of them may be genuine and sincere, others may just be plain stupid.

Dumb questions can be annoying, but they can lead to adverse results if not handled correctly. This post will give some helpful hints on how to handle them.

What happened between you guys? You looked happy. – This is not the time to give a recap of all the things that led up to the divorce. Just acknowledge the fact that sometimes things don’t work out and leave it at that.

Did he (or she) cheat on you? – When divorces occur, it doesn’t matter who was unfaithful. So this question does not have to be answered, no matter how much the person wants to know.

Do you want to get married again? – After a divorce, it is too early to tell whether one will tie the knot again. It’s perfectly fine to say that you don’t know.

What are you going to do now? – Again, it’s okay to say that you don’t know, and that you need some time to figure things out.

Do you need anything? – Help during a divorce can come in many forms, whether it be financial or emotional. While you should not feel pressured to accept help, it is nice to have people in your corner.
